It's Official...

Dear Friends and Family,

Well, it's official! Today we went to court to petition for what they call “placement.” It was just Iain, Gianna & I along with Sid, our attorney. We were able to avoid going before the judge from our last legal nightmare and actually went before Judge Lilynn Cutrer (who I actually knew from high school.) It went smoothly and we were in and out of there quickly with lots of fuss made over this little munchkin.

Gianna is legally in our custody and even more importantly; she can now be covered by our insurance (insert sigh of relief.) So, in accordance with Louisiana law, we will go before the court one last time a year from now and that’s when the adoption will be finalized. That’s when the state will issue a new birth certificate with our names as her parents and “Lewis” as her legal name. It’s all a little confusing, but the bottom line is that we are her parents and there’s virtually no way the adoption can be revoked at this point. What a relief and blessing!

The last few weeks have been going well. Gianna is now seven weeks old and is GROWING like a weed. She started off small…….but she’s chunckin’ up quite nicely. She began to smile socially about 2 weeks ago and is cooing quite a lot. She is really good natured about 90% of the time. The other ten percent accounts for the feisty little fits she throws when she’s hungry, gassy or tired. She’s even cute when she’s hopping mad!

People’s number one question is usually, “How is she sleeping at night?” which is usually followed by the suggestion to added cereal to her bottle. Well, she’s sleeping really great. We work hard during the day to keep her stimulated enough to where she’ll be good and tired at night……seems to be working. She wakes up once or twice to eat, but then goes right back to sleep. And those nighttime feedings are just sweet little bonding opportunities. (No cereal yet!)

We are excited that Iain’s parents will be coming down to meet their granddaughter for the first time next week. More doting grandparents!! That will be a highlight for all of us.
